Most public spaces in cities are used for function- al activities (e.g. tube station, roads, forecourts, sidewalks, etc...). Most people just go through these spaces and might never slow their pace to engage with the ordi- nary day -to-day environ- ments around them. Thus, we attempted to create an art piece, which has a simple appearance and could motivate people to stop and enjoy a moment of happiness.

PLAY { GROUND } work designed by Hiroshi Ito and Sung Ting Hsieh who has focused on playful design and acoustic art. We collected two main elements from their own fields, which were playful action and noise. Also interest in interactive design and assumed people’s behaviours can influence or interfere with the art installations.

We attempted to create an art piece, which has a simple operation and no limitation on age; employed music as the medium to trigger people’s curiosity. The piece, installed two speakers in a house shape device, aims to introduce playfulness to existing places. When people wore the designed bracelet and touched ground, the conductive sensor triggered the rhythm and music. 5 bracelets cause different sounds, besides, if people touch each other, distinguished sound occurred. In the experiment, people are encouraged to collaborate and communicate in spaces such as a garden, a fountain, a floor, a wall and other conductive materials.
